Your Spine Is More Than Just Your Back

When you hear the word “spine,” you probably think about your back.

But your spine is much more than just the place that hurts when you bend over, sit too long, or pick something up the wrong way.

Your spine interacts with your joints, muscles, nerves, connective tissue, and the rest of your body. That’s why two people can have the same diagnosis—or even the same symptoms—and need completely different approaches to care.

So… what spinal conditions do we treat?

At Backed by Blackmon, we commonly work with patients experiencing:

~Neck & Back Pain: From everyday aches and stiffness to more persistent or recurring pain.

~Headaches & Migraines: Including tension-type, cervicogenic, migraine, and sinus-related headaches.

~Sciatica: Pain, numbness, tingling, or other symptoms that may travel from the low back or buttock into the leg.

~Disc Herniations: When a spinal disc becomes irritated or herniated and begins contributing to pain or other symptoms.

~Arthritis & Joint Stiffness: Because stiffness and degenerative changes don't necessarily mean you have to stop moving.

~Muscle Pain & Spasms: Sometimes the painful area isn't the whole story. Muscles, joints, movement patterns, and surrounding tissues can all contribute to symptoms.

~TMJ Discomfort & Clicking: Your jaw is part of a larger movement system, and the muscles and joints around your neck and face can play a role in how your jaw functions.

~Nervous System-Related Concerns: Because your spine houses and protects the spinal cord, we also consider how the nervous system may be involved when evaluating a patient's symptoms.

And this list isn't exhaustive. If you don't see your specific condition listed, that doesn't necessarily mean we can't help. Every patient is evaluated individually.

But here's what we really want you to know…We don't treat diagnoses. We treat people.

Two people can walk into our office with “low back pain” and have completely different reasons for experiencing it. That's why our goal isn't simply to find the spot that hurts and adjust it. We want to understand why you're experiencing the problem in the first place. That may mean looking at your movement, strength, mobility, joints, muscles, connective tissue, previous injuries, daily activities, and other factors that could be contributing to your symptoms.

Depending on your individual needs, care may include chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapies such as dry needling, cupping or shockwave therapy, spinal decompression, low-level laser therapy, and/or physical rehabilitation.

Your pain is a symptom. Let's figure out the story behind it.

If you've been dealing with pain that keeps coming back, stiffness that limits what you want to do, headaches that interfere with your day, or symptoms you've simply learned to “live with,” it may be time to have it evaluated.

You don't have to wait until you're in severe pain to seek care.
