Infants & Pediatrics

Babies & Kiddos

Our kids are precious little gifts. From the moment they enter the world, our lives are forever changed. We get to watch them grow and adapt to their environment, and form tiny (or not so tiny) personalities. Growing happens very fast for infants and children; therefore, it is important that their nervous and musculoskeletal systems are prepared for these changes. Here at Backed by Blackmon, our Doctor of Chiropractic has training in Body Work Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Tethered Oral Tissue Therapy, and Pediatric Chiropractic Adjustments to ensure that your child is receiving optimal, well-rounded care.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Chiropractic is a safe and effective option for treating common conditions that are associated with infants and pediatrics. At Backed by Blackmon, we offer many therapies that can be utilized to decrease the dysfunction in the body that is causing a child unwanted symptoms. Of course, when a child is experiencing unwanted symptoms, then that can cause stress on the parents. We will treat with Body Work Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Tethered Oral Tissue Therapy, and/or Pediatric Chiropractic Adjustments given your child’s presentation when they arrive to our office.

Chiropractic care for infants and pediatrics is very gentle. Our Doctor of Chiropractic uses about the same pressure it takes to check the ripeness of a tomato to adjust an infant and uses less force to adjust children than she does to adjust adults. Chiropractic is all about adaptation because each body is different.

All of our treatment options can be found in greater detail on our services page.

Body Work Therapy

Body Work Therapy is a full body musculature and fascial release therapy. Our body is very complex and consists of over 600 muscles that are all surrounded by fascia. Babies and Children that are under a lot of musculature stress can benefit greatly from Body Work Therapy. It is a gentle treatment option that consists of various stretches and techniques to relieve tight muscles and fascia. This treatment is extra valuable for children experiencing Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs) and Torticollis.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle technique that uses light tough to assess and enhance the physiological function of the central nervous system by promoting positive movement of the fluids in and around it. Craniosacral Therapy helps to remove “blockages” from the normal flow, which can enhance the body’s ability to heal. This therapy also relieves pressure on the bones of the head, spinal column, and sacrum and promotes proper alignment of the cranial bones in infants and children.

Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs)

Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs) are commonly known as tongue, lip, and buccal ties. The three different ties can occur all together, one at a time, or two at a time. The tie is a result of overly tight, restricted tissue (frenulum). TOTs can cause difficulties with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, tummy time, digestion, gaining weight, and the overall health of the child. Children may even prefer specific body positions because of the tension their body is under due to restrictions in their mouths. Depending on the severity of the TOTs, a child may undergo a frenectomy. Here at Backed by Blackmon, we perform pre- and post-frenectomy Tethered Oral Tissue Therapy to prepare the child’s mouth for the procedure as well as aid in proper healing post-procedure.

When Should My Child See a Chiropractor?

Being born is extremely tough on the body, and that is why we recommend for our moms to bring in their child as soon as they feel comfortable enough to leave the house. Our Doctor of Chiropractic performs a detailed history and exam to check the developmental status of the child. The initial appointment is important to catch any dysfunction that a child is experiencing before the dysfunction causes unwanted symptoms. Also, the earlier the dysfunction is addressed, then typically the quicker it can be resolved. Of course, if a child is not brought in during the first few weeks of life, then we are still able to put together an individualized treatment plan to aid in getting rid of any dysfunction that the child is experiencing.

Don't See Your Child's Condition?

Chiropractic may help with a number of conditions, and it would be nearly impossible for us to list out each and every one. If you did not see your specific condition, then please contact us either via phone or email!
